The Peregrine Consort was organized in 1998 by American soprano Amy Elizabeth Wheeler as a consortium of distinguished freelance baroque musicians led by Swedish violinist Maria Lindal. The ensemble was comprised of artists from  the Drottingholm Slotts Teater, the Stockholm Baroque Soloists, the Warsaw Chamber Opera, Concerto Copenhagen, and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Wheeler researched repertoire from unpublished manuscript sources and modern published editions for concert programs which featured popular and rediscovered works for the church and the stage by Italian, German and English composers from the 16th, 17th and 18th Centuries. The ensemble made its debut at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, performing Alessandro Scarlatti's Stabat Mater together with a staged version of George Frideric Händel's Amarilli Vezzosa.  In 1999, they performed the  premier of Baldessare Galuppi's Confitebor tibi, Domine for S,A,B, strings, bc at the "Dni Muzyki i Teatru" festival in Poznan, Poland, with a repeat performance at Filharmonia Narodowa's Bach 2000 celebration at the King's Castle in Warsaw. They were presented at the Wratislavia Cantans International Music Festival performing the premiere of Alessandro Scarlatti’s cantata A battaglia pensieri for soprano, alto, strings, and baroque trumpet, and performed their final concert at Filharmonia's 100th anniversary celebration in a program of songs, dialogues, and consort music from the English renaissance which received a standing ovation.
